Work at J.P. Morgan¶
Five years, two teams. These pages turn each CV bullet into:
- a STAR answer (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to tell,
- the technical depth behind it, in case they drill in,
- the follow-up questions a sharp interviewer asks.

Confidentiality
Talk about your design choices and the public domain concepts. Never name clients, internal system names beyond what is on the CV, volumes you were told are confidential, or source code. "A large client base" and "reports every month" are fine; exact client counts may not be. If unsure, describe the order of magnitude.
Domain words to know cold¶
| Term | Plain meaning |
|---|---|
| Asset & Wealth Management | Managing money for institutions (asset management) and for rich individuals through advisors (wealth management) |
| Financial advisor | Advises end clients; uses the platform to pick a model and apply it to client accounts |
| Model portfolio | A target allocation (securities or funds + weights) maintained by a portfolio manager; advisors follow it across many accounts |
| Rebalancing | Trading an account back to the model's weights after drift or after the model changes |
| Trade commentary | Note explaining why a model changed (what was bought or sold and why) |
| Fact sheet | 1–2 page summary of a model or fund: holdings, allocation, performance, fees, risk |
| Alternatives (ALT) | Non-traditional assets: private equity, private credit, hedge funds, real estate. Less liquid, high minimums, priced monthly or quarterly |
| SMA | Separately Managed Account: the client owns the individual securities directly (vs. pooled units of a fund); allows tax-loss harvesting and customisation |
| Capital gains | Profit on selling at more than cost. Matters when switching funds: selling an old fund to buy the model's fund can trigger tax |
| Correlation | How two return series move together, from −1 to +1. A fund highly correlated with what you already hold adds little diversification |
| Index | A rules-based list of securities and weights (e.g. Nifty 50) used as a benchmark or for ETFs |
| ETF | Exchange-traded fund; usually tracks an index; trades on an exchange like a stock |
| Index research | Designing and maintaining index methodologies, calculating index levels, and reporting them to clients |
| BAU | "Business as usual": recurring operations work |
